There is nothing on the iPad that is a must have tool. If you, have one, the Animoog is great , and at .99 it's a steal..I have done a few grooves and loops on the ms 20 that I have used. Genome is cool for flying in seq loops.

Don't have an iPad myself but I know some guys control their DAW from it, so they can be sitting at the drumkit (or whatever) and easily do what they need to rather than having to constantly move back and forth.

The Moog & Korg stuff is worth having - but no, can't say it's an essential part of my set up just yet.

I love Loopy HD (http://loopyapp.com/) and have used it to record sketches almost every day since I got it. I think it would work as a "serious" app if I had an iO Dock or similar interface. But this isn't a traditional multitracker, so depending on your composition process your mileage may vary. I'm really into using live looping to work out ideas in their beginning stages, so it's a great fit for me.

I'm definitely interested in hearing more about the iO Dock and if you think it's worth the price tag.

The ipads just not there yet for any heavy duty recording. The only advantage over my laptop is the weight right now. It'll get there in time but I don't see an advantage for serious use yet. I bought a 37key keyboard to use with it for travel but just for entertainment and rough ideas.

No sweat Pat, I am a little disappointed by the level of the music apps so far. Amazing for the price sure, but nothing I would use day to day. I thought the Electribe might be cool but it doesn't sound great, now I dont have an original to compare it to so maybe I am wrong.

My suspicion is that the iPad D/A isnt great. The Alesis just mirrors the iPad outputs it doesnt have a separate D/A.
